Steam drums arrive for Otjikoto Biomass Power Station

Steam drums for Namibia’s first 40 MW biomass power plant have arrived from China, marking a major milestone in the N$2.64 billion Otjikoto Biomass power station project near Tsumeb. The plant, expected to be completed in Q1 2027, will generate electricity from encroacher bush and create around 1 100 jobs during construction phase.

Backed by funding from the Agence française de Développement, the Mitigation Action Facility, the Namibian Government and Le Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial, the project aims to deliver social, environmental and economic benefits while supporting local biomass supply chains and helping reduce electricity tariffs.
