Biomass Fair Transitions to a Biannual Format to Maximize Industry Impact

The Namibia Biomass Industry Group (N-BiG) and the Charcoal Association of Namibia (CAoN) hereby announce that the Annual BIOMASS FAIR will now be hosted biannually, rather than annually. The Biomass Fair is an event tailored toward the blossoming bush biomass sector in Namibia and the region at large. The event brings together stakeholders to exchange best practices and knowledge on bush control and biomass utilisation and to explore the latest developments within the biomass sector.

The last fair was held in August 2024 in Otjiwarongo under the theme: Innovating for a greener future.” The BIOMASS FAIR 2024 received diamond sponsorship from Standard Bank Namibia, thus accorded the name Standard Bank BIOMASS FAIR 2024.

“As a proud diamond sponsor of the Standard Bank BIOMASS FAIR 2024, we support the growth and evolution of Namibia’s biomass sector—an industry with immense potential to drive sustainable economic development, environmental stewardship, job creation, and just energy transition opportunities. At Standard Bank Namibia, we are committed to championing innovation and unlocking opportunities in emerging sectors, and the Biomass Fair offers a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and investment. The shift to a biannual format reflects the sector’s growing maturity and strategic importance, and we look forward to continued partnerships that foster impactful solutions and contribute to building a greener, more prosperous Namibia,” says Gerhard Mukuahima, Head of Agribusiness at Standard Bank.

The fair also received additional sponsorships from Africa Biomass Company, Bandit Industries, DHG Vertriebs- & Consultinggesellschaft mbH, Safari Braai Products, NamPower, CMO Group, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Agribank. The next fair is envisioned to take place in 2026 with the exact date still to be announced.

The three-day event featured sessions on environmental best practices, biomass industry advancements, bush value chains and biochar business models. Key discussion topics included governance frameworks, market access and trade opportunities, harvesting and processing technologies and the development of bush-biomass products and technical services. The hybrid format facilitated broad participation, drawing 267 in-person attendees, 100 virtual participants and 1,180 live stream viewers.

A dedicated networking session provided a platform for industry players to establish and strengthen professional relationships, with 137 stakeholders in attendance. The exhibition segment of the fair showcased state-of-the-art biomass technologies and live field demonstrations, attracting 56 exhibitors and 450 visitors, all eager to engage with the latest industry innovations.

The organisers state that they want to provide stakeholders with additional time to drive industry innovation, advance research and cultivate impactful business ventures.
